Request access to a vault by providing the account ID, your email, and the QR code from the metal plate or printed paper you received from the vault owner.
You may have received a QR code (on a metal plate or printed paper) from someone who wants you to be able to access their information if something happens to them. IfGone allows people to securely store data that can only be accessed by someone holding their QR code after they are gone.
Gaining access to a vault means you will be able to download the data the vault owner stored — such as documents, passwords, messages, or instructions for their estate. The contents are entirely determined by the person who created the vault.
When you request access, the vault owner is notified immediately. If they are not incapacitated, they can refuse the request during the veto period. This prevents unauthorised access while the owner is still active.
Access is not instant. Once the veto period ends, data must be retrieved from cold storage, which can take 12–48 hours. This delay is by design — it gives the vault owner every opportunity to respond.
You will be emailed with further details if and when access is granted. No action is required from you in the meantime.
IfGone does not know what is stored in any vault and cannot provide any details about the contents until the vault has been successfully unlocked.
There is no charge for retrieving data from a vault. The vault owner's subscription covers all storage and retrieval costs.
Provide the QR code from the metal plate or printed paper you received from the vault owner. It is processed entirely in your browser and never sent to any server.
Hold your QR code (plate or printout) up to your camera. All processing is done locally — no video data is sent anywhere.
